Connecticut is one of the states where labor laws are properly implemented. Let me tell you one thing that this is one of the states where you will find all the labor laws being implemented properly. Labor laws are meant for the benefit of the work force. Hence it is the duty of each labor to know about the state labor laws. Only then they will be able to make the most of it.
Some of the labor laws are as follows:
Minimum wages
As far as the minimum are concerned it is around $8.00 in this state. There is good news as well. From the January 1st, 2010, the wage rate is going to be increased to $8.25. If you are a minor working in agriculture or government then you will get 85% of the minimum wage. As far as the waiters, waitresses as well as the bar tenders are concerned, they get reduced payments due to tips. This is not a new rule but all the states have such rules.There is one more important question regarding minimum wages. How is the employer going to pay for the over time? This is definitely one of the very important questions. However you as an employer as well as an employee must know that the overtime is counted and then the employers have to pay the extra amount. As far as the overtime rate is concerned, let me tell you that the employer will have to pay at one and half time the normal rate as far as the extra work is concerned.
If you feel that the employers will have to provide the break, then you are wrong. Generally the break is being provided once in a day and that too of one hour. Apart from that you as a worker cannot ask for any other break. However on some special cases you can ask for the break and you will definitely get it.
Child Labor
Let me tell you one thing that the child labor is a curse but some sorts of the work are so easy and healthy that the government of America has also planned to allow the children to work in such places. One of the places where a child can work is the fast food corners. Some more are restaurants, flower shop, pizza corners and so on. All these places are quite healthy and the child health improves and not goes on becoming bad.The women too are well protected. Sexual harassment is a very big crime and if any person is found guilty on this behalf then he will be badly punished.
