Minnesota State Labor Laws

  • You must know that the Minnesota is one of the best states and is known for its campgrounds. The people come here to enjoy the holidays. But have you ever thought that how good is this state for the working employees. We will definitely throw some light on this in this article.

Some of the state labor laws which are applicable in the state of Minnesota are as follows:

Let us at first start with the hiring process. No law states that the employer will have to select the best candidate for his company.  But he will have to make sure that he is not discriminating among the candidates on behalf of age, race, sex, religion, national origin or disability. If they are found guilty on this account then they will definitely be punished very badly.

There are some of the interview questions which cannot be asked by the employers. They cannot ask that are you married or planning to get married soon. They cannot also ask that does the candidate have children. They can also not ask about the place where the candidate was born. The law also states that the employer cannot ask about the fact that has the candidate ever been arrested.

However the employers are allowed to ask that is the candidate is allowed to work in United States or not. He can also ask that has the candidate ever been convicted for any crime. They can also ask the question about the accommodation.

    Employment at will
Let me tell you that the Minnesota is a state where employment at will policy is being followed. However this has lots of controversy behind it. The biggest controversy is that the employee is not assured about his job. The employer can hire them without any prior notice. Hence suppose you are an employee. You walk into the office and in the morning you are handed over your termination letter. How will you feel? Believe me that this can happen to you. Hence you should make sure that you perform well all the time. However there is one good aspect as well. As an employee you are free to leave the job at any time without giving any notice.

In short you can say that there is no notice period policy in this state. As far as the minimum wage law is concerned, it is around 6.15$ per hour for the large employee and 5.25$ per hour for the smaller employee. As per the minimum hours, you will have to work for around 48 hours a week.

These are some of the laws related to the Minnesota. All the employers should make sure that their company follows them strictly.
