Mississippi State Labor Laws
-
Mississippi is one of the state which is quite eye catching for the tourists. However it is equally good for the workers who work out here. They are definitely enjoying some of the best working conditions in the country. Some of the state labor laws which are followed in this state will be listed in the article.
Some of such state laws are as follows
As per the child labor laws the children who are below 16 years of age cannot work for more than 44 hours a week. However in Mississippi there is no such rules that a break period should be provided to the children. This is definitely not in the law book. However there is good news for the children as well.
They do not require any work permit to work in the state of Mississippi. You will definitely have to make sure the child labor who is working in your company is not working after 7:00pm in the night. You will also have to make sure that the child is not working before 7:00 am in the morning. This is strictly prohibited. However the child can work up till 9:00 pm during holidays.
These are some of the laws about the child labor. Now let us discuss about the laws related to the wages. Let me tell you that Mississippi is among the five states which do not have any fixed minimum wage. In fact there is no minimum wage fixed in this state. The number of hours to be worked per week is also not fixed. This means that the employer and the employee will have to decide that what minimum wage it will be for them.
They will also have to decide the number of hours to be worked in a week. Generally if an employee is over 16 years of age then the employer can make the employee work for more than 24 hours a day. They are free to decide the number of hours being worked by the employee. This is definitely harsh on the part of employee. However the employer will have to pay as well for the extra work and that too at increased wage rate. If they used to pay around $6.00 as the minimum wage then they will have to pay the extra amount as $ 9.00 per hour. This is definitely good news for the employees. Though they have to work a lot but they are earning more as well.
These are some of the labor laws which are being followed in Mississippi. Let me tell you one thing that the employers have to make sure that their employees know about it in detail. Otherwise they will be strictly punished.
