Ohio State Labor Laws

  • Ohio is one of the states which are quite popular. But is it good for working? This is definitely one of the big questions which come to my mind. We would be throwing light on some of the state labor laws in this state.

    Some of the state labor laws are as below:

    1. Employment at will
    You as an employee should make sure that you know about the contract which you are signing. It is quite necessary that you follow the contract with lot of care.  If you will not follow the contract then the “employment at will” will come into action. You might be thrown out of the office without any prior notice. There is no concept of the notice period for such employees. However, after the bond is over the employees can leave the job at anytime without giving any notice.

    2. Work place security
    Let me tell you that as far as the work place security is concerned, it is quite important for the employer. The employer will have to make sure that the workplace is safe enough for the work or not. If the work place is not safe enough then the employees might say no to work. They have all the rights to do so if they wish.

    3. Leave
    An employee can take the leave of around 12 weeks but they will not be paid for this period. The maternity leave is also covered under this law. Not more than 3 months will be allowed as a maternity leave. Some other leaves like funeral leaves are also being provided by some of the employers. You should meet your employer and get the list of all the holidays as well as type of leave which his company will provide during the year.

    4. Discrimination and wrongful termination

    Let me add one point in the list of laws that no employer is provided the rights of discriminating among the employee on the basis of sex, color, age, race, national origin, disability as well as pregnancy. They should make sure that these facts do not affect any employee on behalf of their promotion, job assignments, termination and wages. If any employer is found guilty on this account then severe action might be taken against him.

    5. Minimum wage rate
    As far as the minimum wage rate is concerned, let me tell you that the minimum wage rate in Ohio is around $7.30 per hour. The minimum number of hours for which the employee will have to work is 40 hours per week.

    These are some of the state labor laws in Ohio. Let me tell you that this state is quite good for working and the employees are well protected by the state labor laws.
