Virginia State Labor Laws

  • Virginia is one of the states which are definitely considered to be among the best in the whole country. It is situating in the north eastern region. It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean in the east. It is also known as the old dominions or the mother of the presidents. As far as the working condition is concerned, it is quite good in this state.

    Some of the state labor laws in Virginia are as follows:

    1. Hiring Process
    Non employer is allowed to discriminate among various candidates during the hiring process on the basis of the national origin, sex, religion, age and disability. There are some questions as well which an employee cannot ask from the candidates. Some of those questions can be about marriage as well as birth place. For example an employee cannot ask that is the candidate married or is he ready to get married. Questions related to sexual orientation are also not allowed to be asked. The employer cannot even ask that have you ever bee arrested. However the employer might ask that have you ever been convicted for a crime.

    2. References
    If you are a previous employer of any employee then you can tell about some non confidential facts about the employee. But you will have to make sure that it does not harm the employee. Your all facts should be true. Other wise you may be considered to be liable for defamation.

    3. Work place injury
    Let me tell you that if you are getting some injury during the working hours then the employer will have to provide you the compensation. If the employer will not provide you the compensation then you might question him in the court. As far as the amount of the compensation is concerned, it depends upon the classification of their disability. You should know that if the employee is in condition of the total disability then he will be paid the compensation weekly. The compensation will be 662/3 % of the total weekly salary of the employee.

    4. Women harassment
    Let me tell you that you are definitely not allowed to harass any women. If you are found to be guilty on this account then you will definitely be punished very badly. It does not really matter that you are an employee or an employer. The rules are made for all the people. All of them will have to follow it.

    These are some of the laws which you will have to follow if you are an employee or an employer. Make sure that you follow them. Otherwise some serious action might be taken against you.
